South Park MegaMillionaire Preview

For many, the mere mention of a South Park videogame evokes the nightmare of Acclaim's licensed drivel back in the late nineties. South Park Rally. Chef's Luv Shack. The horror. RealArcade hopes to help reverse this damage with a collection of South Park games for the iPhone. The App Store launch game Imaginationland was a good start. Next month's MegaMillionaire is another step in the right direction.

MegaMillionaire is an over-the-top riff on those insane Japanese game shows, such as Takeshi's Castle (which is now mercilessly lampooned on "MXC"). The four boys -- Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny -- must strap rollerskates on their feet and rush through a series of obstacle courses to collect yen. There are crazy dudes in rabbit suits, sumo wrestlers, pits of slime and peanut butter, bacon-covered ramps, and more to negotiate. The ultimate prize for winning the challenge is 10,000 yen, which sounds awesome until you run that through a currency converter. Wait until Cartman does the math.

As you race through each stage, you must collect as much money as possible. Bills litter each scene. Each stage also contains three yen coins. These are not required to proceed to the next stage, but you get a huge bonus if you manage to pick up all three coins before jumping on the big red button at the finish line. Outside of the action stages, you move the boys along a board. Each square represents one of the 20+ stages, plus bonus squares where you spin a wheel to determine any extra conditions for the next scene, such as random farts that cause your character to jump.
